We want your brains!

Grand Rapids Creative Youth is having a brainstorming party.

We’re making plans for our tutoring center’s HILARIOUS store front. Much like the 826 National set-up, we’re equipping our center with a whimsical supply store filled with witty idioms for adults and children alike. The question is: what kind of supply store will we open? What kind of products will this supply store sell?

To get an idea of what kind of joke we’re telling, you can check out some of the 826 shops we’re modeling our setup on.

Some of the shop ideas we’ve been tossing around are a Scary Monster Supply, A Medieval Knight Supply, Alternate Universe Store, Insert Your Idea Here Supply Store…

With positive collaboration and project-based learning, we provide supplemental education in a non-traditional environment, bridging socioeconomic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.

Questionable Beginnings?

Lori Knorr, owner of the Sparrows Coffee Tea and Newsstand and an art educator with years of experience working in community centered art programs in Grand Rapids, MI, was recently asked by Cecile Fehsenfeld of Schuler Books, to lead an effort to establish a literacy center with an emphasis on creative writing and visual art.

The tutoring center, greatly influenced by 826 National, gives one-on-one support to under-privileged students aged 6-18. In collaboration with the Litribune, Schuler Books, Literary Life Bookstore, and with the support of some really great people, we will be able to make this community center a reality.
